Comments
When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the information provided in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help detect and prevent spam. An anonymized string (hash) generated from your email address may be submitted to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Once your comment is approved, your profile image—if available—may be publicly visible alongside your comment.
Media Uploads
If you upload images to our website, we recommend removing any embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may be able to download and extract location data from publicly available images.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies for future convenience. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This contains no personal data and is discarded when the browser is closed.
When logging in, we set several cookies to store your login credentials and screen preferences. Login cookies remain for two days; display preference cookies for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks. Logging out will remove these cookies.
If you publish or edit content, a cookie is stored in your browser containing only the post ID of the article—this expires after one day and stores no personal data.
Embedded Content from Third-Party Sites
Our website may include embedded content (e.g., videos, articles, images) from external sources. Interacting with embedded content is the same as visiting the originating site. These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction—especially if you’re logged into their platform.
Data Sharing
If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for verification and security purposes.
Data Retention
Comments and their metadata are stored indefinitely to streamline moderation and recognize follow-up comments automatically.
If you register for an account, your personal information is stored in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete this data at any time—excluding your username. Website administrators may also access and modify this information as needed.
Your Rights Over Your Data
If you have an account or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You may also request that we delete any data we retain, except for information required for legal, administrative, or security purposes.
Where Your Data Is Sent
To reduce spam and protect our users, all comments may be screened through an automated spam detection system.
